What are Ozlandish Writings?

From July 2010 to December 2014 we ran OZLAND PICTURE STORIES as described below. Sadly though the number of writers reduced over the years and we decided to call it a day. We leave these as a record of the good times we had.

Are "You" ready to challenge your writing skills? Then participate in our OZLAND Picture Stories writing series at The Ozland Art Gallery.

Each month a new picture will be picked, from our OZLAND Artist of the Month collection, with different themes. Your goal is to write a 500-1000 word... poem... essay... or story about the picture picked. This is a chance for you to challenge your writing skills each month. Story can be written in ANY genre... sci fi... romance... ghost... fantasy... fiction... non-fiction... biography... mystery... historical... whatever your writing genre... feel free to experiment. Send your writing inworld to Sven Pertelson as a notecard to have it included on the web site. We meet at the The Ozland Art Gallery each Wednesday at Noon and 6pm SLT to read the latest submissions on voice. More Information

Arwins santa bus adventures Part 4 - by Relay Caedmon

The weather outside the window was fantastic clearblue sky and just some small hint of thin clouds at the horizon. Santa looked out the window, most of his worries had gone away after he heard and spoken to Arwin thru the radio. From her voice he could get that she was a warmhearted person, yet little stressed. No wonder he thought it was the first time for her, i will be careful with her. His eyes fell on the stable there he saw old grumpy rudolph stared at him. Poor Rudolph he thought it cant be easy to be sidestepped like this.

The Lost Prince - March 2011 picture - Lillian Morpork

The old crone sat on a makeshift chair, made of half a log with holes bored in the bottom where sturdy sticks were inserted to make legs. It was worn smooth with the many years she had used it. On an equally makeshift table made of a slab of rock lay several hefty tomes, one open in front of her. As she stared at the page, she muttered to herself:

Part 3 The journey

All the Helpers had became very very busy the last few hours. A group made different colored toys for children, while others had a serious discussion over the planning routes over christmas.
Santa himself sat in his chair with a troublesome mind. His Reindeers all got sick and the new inventions called the Santa bus was disapeared. He had lost contact with it for a few days ago together with one of his must trusted helper. He put on his com radio again, another new invention from his fantastic helpers.

Mac's Rabbit Hunt - lillian Morpork

(Inspired by Trill Zapatero's art from March 2011)

Maverick mongrel Mac’s ear were perked up as he scampered through the woods just at sunset, looking for adventure. Suddenly a big, golden hare leaped out of a bush and went hopping off at full speed. Delighted, Mac went after, barking in glee. Chasing rabbits was fun, but this hare was so much bigger, and he’d never seen one that colour before. Surely it promised the best adventure of his young life.

inspired by "finale" by Shugaaa Rhapsody (Feb/2011 OZLAND Picture Stories)

“I do think I can teach you and I do believe you are ready” Nathan said then continued. “Look around the room what do you pick up?”

Jan glanced at him then slowing scanned the crowd. Image after image flooded her mind and she turned and looked at him, “A whole lot of crap! I can't figure this all out, it’s too much.”

The Ennui of Sargon (by tami and zhu)

The Ennui of Sargon (by tami and zhu)
inspired by the artwork "Santa Special" by Sven/Llola

Arwin rubbed her eyes, trying to wake up. She’d had that dream again, where she was someone else, and looking for someone she’d lost. It was such a sad dream, and so real! Arwin wished she knew what it meant. Oh, but she was driving the Santa Special today! That should be fun, she’d been looking forward to it. She dressed quickly and headed out the door - it wouldn’t do to be late for the Santa Special!

The Old Woman - by Lillian Morpork

Inspired by February 2011 picture

The old woman limped slowly down the street, pushing a walker ahead. She stayed as close to the buildings as she could, so that she would not block the way for the younger, faster pedestrians. She paused at times, to study the display in a window, and sometimes she found a spot where she could sit in the walker and rest.

"Is it a Gift?" by SweetTrinityBaby Resident (PART 1)

"Is it a Gift?" by SweetTrinityBaby Resident (PART 1)
inspired by... SandraLee Palianta's artwork called Collage2

Walking into the room, she looks up and their eyes meet for the first time. Taking a step back she closes her eyes to calm her mind and thoughts. It was normal for Jan to pick up images off of people or "read" people as she liked to call it. She had a knack for knowing things about strangers and planning for things that were to come. But when her eyes met his she was so flooded by images that she could not take it. She did not know if they were from her mind or his, but they all meshed together. Intrigued and knowing that there had to be some deeper meaning behind it, Jan walked over to where this man was sitting. As she approached his table, she watched him as he looked down to his glass of red wine, his hand encircling around the rim of its base.
