What are Ozlandish Writings?

From July 2010 to December 2014 we ran OZLAND PICTURE STORIES as described below. Sadly though the number of writers reduced over the years and we decided to call it a day. We leave these as a record of the good times we had.

Are "You" ready to challenge your writing skills? Then participate in our OZLAND Picture Stories writing series at The Ozland Art Gallery.

Each month a new picture will be picked, from our OZLAND Artist of the Month collection, with different themes. Your goal is to write a 500-1000 word... poem... essay... or story about the picture picked. This is a chance for you to challenge your writing skills each month. Story can be written in ANY genre... sci fi... romance... ghost... fantasy... fiction... non-fiction... biography... mystery... historical... whatever your writing genre... feel free to experiment. Send your writing inworld to Sven Pertelson as a notecard to have it included on the web site. We meet at the The Ozland Art Gallery each Wednesday at Noon and 6pm SLT to read the latest submissions on voice. More Information

Your Inspiration for March 2013

Rats versus Cats by Elbow Muggins

Felicity - Part 4 - by Lillian Morpork

Peter shook his shoulders and took a deep breath. He would learn to use this marvelous machine, and go back and find Hannah. Could he bring back more humans? Set up a village for them here on this side of the river, away from the villages of the cats? But how would the cats feel, after being virtual owners for so many centuries? Better go and have a long talk with the three old Robots, Robosam, Esau and Ebenezer about the idea.

MD, GROUCHY, SNIFFLY, CHIPPER, TIMID, LOONY and NOD sprang from the bushes yelling a great battle cry. This threw the dogs off guard and the cats too. Just WHO were the rats going to fight?

Fairplay - By Teri Meridian

Richard shifted his weight uneasily from one paw to the other, the coarse rope chaffing his neck as he did so. The hang-cat was out of sight behind him and didn't obstruct his view of the castle's inhabitants, all gathered in the courtyard to watch the execution of the highway rats. The minute hand on the clock tower crept agonizingly slowly towards 12 and the hour of his demise. The waiting was pure misery as he stood on the trap door waiting to fall the few feet it would take to snap his neck and end his life, as well as that of his siblings and cousins.

Felicity - Part 3 - by Lillian Morpork

Peter woke to the feel of a warm breeze brushing across his face, filled with the odors of growing things. For a moment, he frowned, wondering, but then he remembered. He was home again, at the family estate. He opened his eyes and looked around. This was the master bedroom. It had been his, before the world war, and before that, generations ago, it had been Percival Cedric’s. Taking a deep breath of the clean, clear air, he sat up and looked around. I was incredible; after all those years, it was exactly as he remembered it. Slowly, he tossed back the covers and stood up.

"I saw something under that thar bridge" squawked Peeper to the General. "I am doing my job. I told you I would."

"What was it," asked the General?

"I didn't get a good look. I wanted to tell you first. Shall I go look," asked Peeper?

"Well of course ya dang bird," bellowed the General. "That's what I'm paying you for!"

Peeper swooped down to get a closer look under the bridge... But nothing was there!

"The Seven Rats" by Llola Lane PART 1

The old rat's walking stick shook as he placed it down into the sand of the dried up riverbed. MD was tired and he could barely stand up, but he couldn't show the others he was weak. It felt good to stop and rest. He crossed his hand comfortably on top of the stick. He didn't want the boys to see just how old he really was. A few more minutes and the dog driven coach would be across the bridge. They were safe under it as long as everyone kept quiet.

Felicity – part 2 – Lillian Morpork

Esau and Robosam walked across the lawn, Esau looking toward the figures as they approached. ‘Levi! What was old Levi doing here?’ he wondered. Levi, Menshem and Imiah were all very ancient robots, from the early days of the world wide war. They spent their time in a little cottage some distance from the big house. There, they built and repaired the new style robos, the ones they called Androids. While the three ancient robots were humanlike, they were metallic. The Androids could have passed as human, if any had been around.

The Struggle - by Sven Pertelson

“Fie on thee, for a loquacious, sesquipedalian, katagelophobic rapscallion!”, blustered the King Rat to the tightly bound cat. “Hast thou not a solitary syllable in thy lingual organ?”. The cat made no sound and only twitched the tip of its tail.

Old Esau settled down, relaxed, and looked at the young faces surrounding him. It was Story Time for them. For an older group, it would be an Ancient History lesson, but the little ones were more attentive if it took the form of a story. He smiled as he looked around, proud of what he had been able to accomplish over the years. His great, great, many greats grandfather had begun the process, and now with his work, it was done. They were now the dominant species on Earth.
